Yoga is not just for adults - children can also benefit from this ancient practice. Research has shown that yoga can have many positive effects on children's health and well-being. Here are some of the top benefits of yoga for children:
1. Increases concentration: Yoga exercises concentration and focus. By focusing on breathing and performing the various yoga positions, the child practices the ability to keep attention on one thing at a time.
2. Promotes calm and relaxation: Yoga helps children relax and reduce stress and anxiety. This practice has been shown to reduce levels of stress hormones such as cortisol in the body, which can contribute to a sense of inner peace and tranquility.
3. Improves body awareness: Yoga helps children become aware of their own body and its movement ability. It can help improve balance, coordination, and flexibility, and thus strengthen self-confidence and self-esteem.
4. Promotes positive relationships: Yoga helps children learn to work together and build positive relationships. By performing yoga exercises together with other children, they can learn to listen and respect each other.
If you want to find a yoga studio in Sweden that offers children's yoga, there are several options to choose from. Here are some of them:
1. YogaKids in Stockholm: This studio offers yoga classes for children aged 2-12, with a focus on play and fun exercises that help develop children's motor skills and self-confidence.
2. Yogashakti in Gothenburg: This studio offers yoga classes for children aged 4-12, with a focus on mindfulness and relaxation techniques to reduce stress and anxiety.
3. Yoga Barn in Malmö: This studio offers yoga classes for children aged 3-12, with a focus on promoting creativity and self-confidence through playful and interactive exercises.
4. YogaDevi in Umeå: This studio offers yoga classes for children aged 4-12, with a focus on improving balance, coordination, and flexibility through playful exercises and positions.
By introducing your child to yoga, you can help them develop a healthy lifestyle and learn important life skills such as focus, self-awareness, and relaxation. Don't hesitate to try a yoga class with your child and see how it can help them flourish!
Praise effort, not just results
It's easy to fall into the trap of only praising your child when they achieve something significant, such as winning a game or getting top marks on a test. However, this can send the message that their worth is tied to their achievements. Instead, try to praise the effort they put into something, regardless of the outcome. This can help your child understand that it's okay to make mistakes and that hard work is valuable in its own right. Research shows that praising effort rather than ability can lead to increased persistence and motivation in children (Dweck, 2007).
Encourage exploration and risk-taking
Children with low self-esteem may be hesitant to try new things or take risks because they fear failure or judgment. Encouraging your child to explore new hobbies, activities, or challenges can help them develop a growth mindset, which is the belief that their abilities can be improved through effort and practice. Research shows that children who develop a growth mindset are more likely to view challenges as opportunities for growth, have higher self-esteem, and are more resilient in the face of setbacks (Yeager et al., 2019).
Be a positive role model
Children often model their behavior and attitudes after their parents or caregivers. Being mindful of your own self-talk and attitudes can help you model healthy self-esteem for your child. Try to avoid negative self-talk and instead focus on your strengths and accomplishments. Research shows that parents who exhibit healthy self-esteem are more likely to have children with healthy self-esteem (Harter, 2012).
Provide opportunities for social connection
Social support is an important factor in building self-esteem, particularly for children. Encouraging your child to spend time with friends and participate in social activities can help them feel connected and valued. Research shows that children who have strong social connections are less likely to experience symptoms of depression and anxiety (Heinrich & Gullone, 2006).
Seek professional help if needed
If your child is experiencing persistent low self-esteem or other mental health issues, it may be helpful to seek professional help. A therapist or counselor can work with your child to develop coping skills, build self-esteem, and address any underlying issues that may be contributing to their low self-esteem.
In summary, helping your child build healthy self-esteem is a process that involves praising effort, encouraging exploration, modeling healthy self-esteem, providing opportunities for social connection, and seeking professional help if needed. By taking these steps, you can support your child in developing a strong sense of self-worth and resilience that will serve them well throughout their lives.

What is self-esteem? According to the Stanford Social Innovation review, it is how a person views himself. Having high self-esteem seems beneficial in several studies. There are, for example, a number of studies that find a connection between high self-esteem and good grades. Children are born with self-esteem, however, they may encounter obstacles along the way during the course of life that affect it.

Örjan Ekblom is one of the researchers behind the work of the Swedish recommendations. He tells us that there is no golden age limit for when you can start to assimilate training. In fact, exercise is beneficial from day one.
Three times a week the activity should be more intense and you should be out of breath. 60 minutes of movement a day can be a brisk walk to and from school or just pure play.
Örjan Ekblom points out that it is important to know the purpose of the training. As an example, he mentions cardio training. Before puberty, it is difficult for the body to absorb cardio training.
- This form of training can of course have other good effects, but it will not affect fitness. However, strength training can lead to a child becoming stronger before puberty. The control of their muscles becomes more efficient, but it is only after puberty that you can get bigger in terms of muscle mass.
Ekblom says that studies clearly show that those who are stressed, depressed or anxious can have a very good acute effect in these areas. Things like poor sleep and school performance can be improved with primarily cardio.
In 2019, the World Health Organization, WHO, produced recommendations for younger children as well. These recommendations state that children under one year of age should get at least 30 minutes of physical activity per day and children between 1-2 years of age at least 180 minutes of physical activity. 180 minutes also applies to children aged 3–4, but in this age group 60 minutes of these should be of moderate to high intensity.
Regular strength training for children and young people has been reported to lead to several positive effects, such as increased strength and reduced risk of suffering injuries in various sports. Furthermore, it has also been reported that training with the aim of increasing strength can play an important role in motor learning. The recommendations state that muscle and bone strengthening activity should be included at least three times a week for children between 6-17 years of age.
]]>Always follow the washing instructions :
On the inside of each garment you will find washing instructions based on the garment's fabric and composition. Washing at a low temperature is better for the garment and saves the environment.
Do not over wash:
Wash the clothes when needed. It is not always necessary to wash the clothes after each use. If the garment is still clean, save both on the environment and electricity!
Don't overdose on detergent:
It's easy to sometimes take a little extra detergent because you think the clothes will be cleaner then - but that's not true. In the case of an overdose of detergent, the risk of allergies increases and there is also the risk of detergent remaining in the washing machine, which can give off a bad smell.
Avoid fabric softener when washing training clothes:
Fabric softener can adversely affect the performance of the garment. Fabric softener might clog the pores, which affects the fabric's breathing function.
Avoid leaving used activewear in the bag or in the laundry basket:
Either wash them directly or hang them up to dry before washing them. By washing them directly, you avoid sweat drying into the garment and clogging pores in the fabric, which can cause bad odors and bacteria to thrive.
Do not tumble dry workout clothes:
Tumble drying in high heat can damage the material and can therefore destroy the garment's function.
